Car Trouble
Recently my car been acting strange. While driving on the freeway or idle my car turns off and the light "Check Gauges" comes on. Then when I put it back in park I tryto start it sometimes it starts back up, and sometimes it takes 3-10 tries to turn on. Another problem but not so severe like the one just explained is that my car tends to heat up to 210 ish when im at like a stop sign or at a drive through but then cools back down when I start moving, my guess is this is normal, then again idk much about engines.... so any help with the "check gauges" light would be much appreciated because being at a stop light or in the middle of trafficand my car doing this is so embarrassing.
I drive a 97 Camaro with 148,000 miles if this helps any.

RE: Car Trouble
get the code checked at your local parts place(advance, auto zone etc.)
And the heating up thing is normal. There is no air blowing into the car while you are still then when you move air moves more and helps cool it down. Unless you mean like a huge jump in temp?

RE: Car Trouble
Temperature, as stated before is normal. Most cars have idiot gauges (that sit at normal, unless something bad is happening) and/or belt driven fans (which keeps air moving through the radiator all the time). Also, like said above, get the codes and we'll tell you what they are and how to fix them.

RE: Car Trouble
Have you tried checking your guages when the light comes on?
I'm not sure if going to a place and having the codes read is going to tell you much if it's just a "Check Guages" light that comes on, although the code read is free, so it's worth a try. The only time my check guages light has come on is when i've run out of gas...

RE: Car Trouble
My check gauges light is on every time I have any electronics running inside the car with the engine not running. I think that's what's happening to you? Its simply saying that the car is using up more electricity at that moment than its producing because your engine is off.
