Default Can 98 V6 auto transmission be replaced with a 97 transmission?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with this?

I have a 98 V6 auto with a dud gearbox(transmission).
I have the chance of a 97 replacement gearbox(transmission) to replace it with, will this be fully compatible?

Or put another way, I want to fit a 3rd gen transmission into a 4th gen Camaro, will this work?

Any replies appreciated.

Kind Regards
DS

97 and 98 are both 4th gen camaro's. im not so sure on the v8 to v6 so are they both from a v6? if so should be a fit.

craby, i'd seen the car as it's actually close to where I live. Its a 3.8 V6 97 30th anniversary.

Will this bolt into DS's 98 v6? I presume the belhousing is same on both as are tailshafts

V6-V6 will work just fine they both use the same bells and tails. The V8s you have to keep LT to LT and LS to LS. The 93 is an oddball all around so steer clear of a 93 Trans.

If you get a trans from a 3.4L engine you may need to see if the TQC will fit the 3.8L flywheel. The 3.4L fly will not fit the 3.8L engine.

"Gearbox"...manual trans.
"Slushbox"....automatic trans.

Guys,

I've got a major disaster, the 'slushbox' has arrived, but the guy who is doing the work tells me it is a different box, the replacement has a split belhousing, mine doesn't and it is also about 1 inch shorter somewhere!
My box number is 2406970/2 and a 46 stamped on it.
The replacement box number is 24202527/2 and an 18 stamped on it.
Anyone know what these numbers mean?
I would really appreciate any feedback/advice on this ASAP as the guy is waiting for my response and I've no idea what's gone wrong!!

Regards
DS

The new trans you received is the wrong one for your car. Somewhere around 1997, the 4L60E became a two-piece unit. But I can't say if it's directly interchangeable with a one-piece trans (you already found a length difference).
What part of the trans are you taking those numbers off of? 24202527 is the part number for a tailshaft housing for an S10 truck. And does that tail piece have mounting provisions for the torque arm, like your old one does? The two-piece case models should have a 6 bolt tail housing, whereas your old one has 4 bolts.
Take a look here, and see if you can find any other numbers on both transmissions that ring a bell. http://mmerlinn.com/catalog/lilscrib...6/gm9l6010.htm
