I ran lines last night on a Jeep for my friend and her AC blew out the top but not from the vents. right away you could see the lines were the issue. Hers were thrashed. Point being- have you just looked at the lines (might need to jack up the front or lay on the ground) and visually looked at the lines? IMHO it is cheaper to just replace lines (as long as we aren't talking metal lines with bends) any day of the week- (Sorry if thats not quit what your talking about my screen is only 10" so i have scroll back and forth to read what everyones posting)
ETA: your compressor will cycle any time you run it- anytime I have an issue with something and start paying attention to certain sounds- they seem wrong lol.
