Default A/C problem

Since I've bought my car (95 3.4 camaro) the A/C hasn't worked properly. It will kick on every once in a while, but mostly the blower will turn on and hit me w hot air. So after verifying the compressor wasn't turning on I jumped the relay and everything works fine, compressor is on and it blows cold. So I replaced the relay. It worked(compressor was on) until I got home from autozone and let the car sit. Turned back on and it wont turn on. Short of wiring a toggle switch, anyone have any other suggestions?

You may be marginally low on refrigerant. The compressor gets turned off if the refrigerant is low. Forcing the compressor On when the refrigerant is low will eventually cause damage to the compressor.

I am having the same problem, when I jumped the Relay it worked fine and the compressor turned on and air got cold. I bought a new relay at the autoparts store, and when I connected it, the compressor still didn't kick on. According to that diagnostic sheet in the previous post it is either the A/C relay, or relay connection. What should I look for to see if there is a bad connection.

The right amount? What where the pressures at? 95% of the time with what you described the problem is low refrigerant.

So I was having this same exact problem. My refrigerant pressure was good, and when I jumped the relay it kicked the compressor on, but when I replaced the relay it no longer worked. Today while I was checking my fuses again, I pulled the one inside the vehicle on the driver side of the dashboard labeled PCM BAT. I made the mistake of doing this while the car was running which in turn shut my car off. I restarted it about 3 times and it would just start then die. The 4th time however it stayed running, and it appears that it reset the PCM, and now my compressor comes on every time when I turn my A/C on. I am guessing that it just took a good reset to allow my PCM to send the signal to my A/C relay?? None the less, give it a try if you are still having this problem. Good Luck.
