To buy or not?
I was looking through this car ad book and found this 2001 Chevy Camaro for sale, only $1000. Went to take a look. Has 100k miles, bad paint job, flawless interior, everything checks out but the dealer says when they got it, it started to stall and needs a new motor/engine(couldnt understand but he said itd cost like 300-400)
I love it, and want it, but dont know if its worth it.

Pictures or ad link would be good, but,
JMT's - average mileage, interior good, OE paint or a repaint?
Either way, paint is paint.
Other stuff :
Would Camaro pass State's Safety Inspection barring engine problem? Most important, maybe.
All accessories work?
Windows and door locks, radio, and all other equipment work? A/C & fans?
Now, doe sthe engine really need replacement?
If you seen it run, does it leak & smoke?
Could it have a vacuum leak? MAF bellows broken?
Any diagnostic trouble codes?
If engine needs replacement, are you mechanical enough to change it out and have a place to do it?
So, I'm sure others will add to the list, but, with your assessment, it is your decision whether to buy or not. Food for thought
I forgot, Welcome to the Club!

$300-400 wouldn't even cover the labor cost to replace a free engine. I would take the dealer up on that number and have him replace the engine for that amount.

is it v6 v8 ,if its solid like said above ,if they will put a running engine in it for that go for it, would make a great project car, personaly I think they are one of the best looking camaros out there the the 98 to 2001 an its a last year to of the fourth ,better then the new ones to me ,the new ones got power but are butt ugly to me an pricey unless you buy a v6
