what kind of air cleaner? picture? any other mods and anything done or happened to the car that is close to the time the problem started?

if its similar to a K&N in that it has on oiled element and it was not drained right the oil will get on the maf and make trouble with the a/f mix. pull the maf and see what it looks like.

use maf cleaner only. dont want to mess with them tiny wires at all.

Ok,and that's the sensor going into the intake piping correct?

yes it should be between the air filter and the throttle body.
