95 Camaro Audio Upgrade Done,
95 Camaro with Bose system. Total upgrade required but money being short, I've gone the cheap route. Boss double din, Metra surround and a PAC ROEM-GM21, all from Crutchfield.
Fun taking the centre console out, didn't break anything. Lots of old sweets and money from previous owner !! Can't see a way to hotrod it to make a better cup holder, yet.
Have to give kudos to Crutchfield phone techs. The package arrived very quickly and their emails had a bunch of brilliantly clear instructions, which I didn't read all of them as well I could have. So after doing the splicing and using the low level connections thinking that driving the Bose amps would not like high levels, then whilst looking for the invoice so I could call Crutchfield, I decided to check their emailed info sheets and saw they recommended the high level wires. I called them on the help line and instantly the guy knew who I was, what equipment I had etc. Gotta love some aspects of tech !! He cleared up exactly why the high level is used and also managed to tell me that the PAC interface has 4 level controls that are the final trim points, and I thought they were just pretty lights.
So thanks Crutchfield, I'm impressed indeed.
Lit it up this morning, fiddled with the PAC level controls and found this to be a totally satisfactory upgrade. The Boss head is fantastically simple to use, the easiest interface I've ever met and quality is way beyond expectations from reading all sorts of reviews of using old Bose system. Not bad for $235 indeed !!
