Sounds to me like the pulley you replaced does not line up with the rest of the pulleys. Stand by the fender and line up the belt by sight it should be nice and straight.

it lines up fine. I had a mechanic buddy look at it and apparently i need new bearings for the camshaft pulley. Will that be costly? Its gone like this for week, how much longer do i have before it starts getting worse?

You sure he didn't say the crankshaft pulley? And why would that be making the belt squeak, unless it's bent.

While you are after your Cam pulley you may want to have your muffler bearings checked and also the blinker fluid. Ok joking aside was her referring to the pulley that can move? Since it is on kind of a cam device? That is called the Tensioner pulley. The 3.8 has only one and it is on the passenger side of the engine near the top. The LS1 has 2, both are accessible from the passenger side one is near the middle of the engine and it helps to remove the intake tubing to access it. The second one is for the AC comp and it is down really low on the engine and it is a pain in the a$$ to get to, but you can from the top of the engine. The 3.4L has one pulley on the pass side near the alternator. I have not had much wrench time with the LT1 so I am not sure where its tensioner is located or how many there are.

Ha Ha Ha, hilaroius. Yea,and while im at it, i'll take off the rim covers to get a better time on the track lol. And yea, i had a similiar reaction, but i dont know a whole lot about the pulley system so i just kinda went with it. And the belt isnt squeaking, the pulley is. Its the pulley that is directly under the air intake, smack dab in the middle. And i know its not the crankshatf pulley. My crank is down at the bottom, the pulley that is squeaking is much higher.

The water pump? If its the pulley that moves its the tensioner. Normally a bad bearing will not cause a belt to where out on the edge unless its the tensioner bearing but you should see that leaning when you look from the side.

water pump pulley is right under the tb intake. how old is the water pump? sounds like the water pump bearing is going.

Ok, why not remove the belt, and give each pulley a twirl. Then you'll be able to isolate everything to listen for a squeak, and feel for slop or a worn dragging bearing.
