Default Bah Transmission

So here I am driving the new 95 Z28 today and attempted to pass a car. That's when it happened, I just from 80kmh to 120kmh in no time, then zap. Power started coming down and I had no more acceleration.

Turns out the transmission overheated and leaked creating a cloud of smoke. It's been diagnosed as not shifting past third gear.

I've been quote $2000 to have it rebuilt. Worth it or should I just buy a new one?

Thanks

Jared

Whats a new one cost? Can you pull the tranny yourself? I assume the 2K is a complete job?

Just from my personal experience with getting transmissions rebuilt, both were a waste of money. One only had 26K on the rebuild and it went out again, costing me another $1300. With the money I spent on the original rebuild plus the next 1300, I could have bought a new one and installed it myself

The other one never acted quiet right after the rebuild but at least it lasted a few years.

If it works out that a new one is cheaper, go for it, everyone likes new parts

The rebuild will be a total tear down and replacement. He said he'd add a couple things there for me to "beef it up a bit" and allow me to push it a bit harder.

I've been looking around and I can find new transmissions ranging from USD$800 to USD$5000. I have no clue which ones are directly interchangle for the 4L60-E that we seem to have though (except of course the 4L60-E itself from gmperformance.com).

A completely new transmission can be very expensive. Take a look at a rebuilt transmission from GM Goodwrench. These are rebuilt and tested to meet GM new transmission standards.
