Bad throttle body position sensor

Hey I own a 02 3.8 and I've been trying to figure out this mileage problem and today my throttle body position sensor went out.. Only going like 25moh max with it floored.. Anyhow on these cars can I just buy the sensor or do I have to get a whole new throttle body? I know I know I should just burn this car to the ground but I really like this car n want to fix it

Now I don't know if this effects mileage but I just don't want to be ripped off going to places and them trying to sell me the whole throttle body if it's not needed

Yes it threw the code p1120 which said throttle position sensor.. So there is actually no sensor? I have to get the whole throttle body?

im not too familiar with the 3800 but i do know that the computer controls the throttle blade with a servo, and the tbw systems i am familiar with the servo is the tps.

Could the servo be stuck?

The TBW system has a built in TPS and it is not serviceable. It cannot be changed out. So knowing that if the TPS is bad you will need to replace the entire throttle assembly. Now how are you trying to read the throttle position? This system will not allow you to over rev the engine and it will lower the RPMs by closing the throttle. To cycle the servo and test the sensor properly you will need to have a Tech II tool.

Hello again would a throttle body off of a 97. 3.8 fit?

No.

Parts book shows that the electronic throttle actuator is the same for the 1999-2002 Camaro/Firebird 3800. Earlier years did not have the "drive-by-wire" system.

According to the book you need AC Delco #24507244 which fits *only* the 3800 used on 99-02 Camaro/Firebird.

I googled that p/n and it looks like you can get one through amazon for about $375. Bummer. This would be why I drive older cars...
