Bad speedometer cable? And cable routing
Hello, my 97 camaro rs was making a LOUD whining from the drivers side dash and the speedometer was all over the place, I think it's a failing speedometer cable. If anyone could tell me where the cable is routed I would greatly appreciate it.

Stick or Automatic? If its a Automatic and shifting right then the speed sensor is working right, plus the noise makes it sound like the speedo.
The way the system works is a speed sensor sends a signal to the PCM (the computer) The PCM knows the ratio of the rear and the tire diameter so it convert the speed sensor signal to a voltage that shows the correct speed on the speedometer. Also in your 97 the PCM tells the automatic trans when to shift using the data from the speed sensor. GM was pretty much done with speedo cables by 1990.
