Auto trans indicator not lined up
 

I have a 96 RS, V6 with automatic. Just noticed that the indicator on the console next to the shifter is not lined up with the acutal gear selected. When the indicator shows that the car is in reverse, the car is acutally in neutral. When indicator shows that the car is in neutral, it is actually in drive/overdrive. Does anyone know if this is a difficult/expensive problem to fix?

Won't know till you pop off the shifter trim plate and take a look see in there.
Could be that the plastic finger on the indicator broke, or became dislodged with the shifter mechanism and is just off-whack.
Whichever is it, shouldn't be an expensive fix, and likely a free one if you can do it yourself.
