Anyone know where i can get a convertible rear window for a 4th gen?
Hey guys, in my other post I determined someone put the wrong size window panel in my 4th gen.
I am looking for the right size one. (Preferably used)
Does anyone have any idea where I can get one?
A second question is:
How hard is it to put in? I read the other posts on how to do it; but I was wondering if the people that did it, would do it again.
BTW: For you hardtop people, This is what I am looking for

I have never seen used rag top parts like this for sale. Could you post the link on how to replace this without taking the top off?
In the normal install process you have to get that window set correcly then install the top too that. Tops don't just bolt in they are fitted to the car with hundreds of staples and no two cars are exactly alike. You even need to verify body line gaps after clamping to verify you installed it correctly.
With tops its all or nothing. Normaly it is not worth trying to pc togther a repair unless the top is less then a year old. If the top has sharnk at all or is a slightly different position you would have hundreds of staple hole on the wrong side of your tack strip.

Hey Gorn, thanks for replying to my thread. You seem to be very knowledgeable about convertible tops, so I have a couple of questions for you. Are you a professional upholsterer? The reason I ask is because you once posted a business idea about sending in your convertible frame to a factory and having a new top installed. You had mentioned it was not possible, since each top has to be custom fitted. But isn't that what GM does?
Also, while I have your brains and experience, can you help me with some other questions?
My top is TERRIBLY fitted. It has the wrong size back window, the top sags and it does not seal properly to the front windshield. How can I tell if the right top is on my car and that someone just didn't take a top off a 89 or something? Do you know where the part numbers are located?
I have a bunch of other questions for you, but I will start with this one for now.

hey man I just did mine last month for the first time. You will need a lot of staples and a good gun. don't cheap out on the gun. I got a dewalt hand pressed one for not that much and I trust their name. also the back window has a slot that it goes into that is a real pain in the but. you will need to drill out a rivit out of the center top. you will see a small hole that you will have to make bigger. I did the whole thing and if I was you I would do that too. but if you don't have the money just to let you know you will still have to take the staples out of the bottom back end from both sections to get to the window. I did it solo and am still getting the scratches out of the car. It's black so that made it worse. e-mail me and I can get with you on how to do it if you want. cpl_villanueva@yahoo.com

I ended up taking my car to a professional and had a Vinyl window put in. I also had the entire top taken off and refitted.
Now the top works and looks awesome!
I really wanted to go with a glass window, but since the car is a project and I was not sure how much money I had to spend on other things, I went this route.
For $275 I had the glass replaced with vinyl and the top refitted by a guy I found on craigslist who did it out of his house. I do not think I got a GREAT deal, but not bad either. What do you all think? $275 good, bad or average for a non shop?
Hey Gorn - Someone took your idea and are selling complete tops with frame and all.
Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Top w/Assembly Kit 94-2002 | eBay
At that price though, it seems like it would make more sense just to pay someone to install a new top on your old frame.
