From what I've read about the bose speakers, the ones installed in the camaro, they have a 1 ohm impedance.

i thought about this but from what ive read while impedance and resistances are both measured in ohms they are different measurements meaning 1ohm (imp) and 1ohm resistance are not equal and a voltmeter measures resistance correct?

When dealing with loudspeakers you are dealing with AC currents. The equivalent of resistance in AC circuits is impedance, and both are measured in OHMs. However, if you were to use a DC ohm meter across the coil of a loudspeaker, it will read a very low value in OHMs and get a wrong measurements. Impedance changes with signal frequency and requires specialized equipment to measure. Typically a loudspeaker rated at 4 OHM will measure less than 1 OHM with an ohm meter.
All that BS being said, the Bose systems in the Camaro came in various configurations, with many using individual amps integrated in one unit for each speaker location. In this arrangement the head unit is only a preamp and does not have enough power to drive the speakers directly. The wires from the head unit to the speaker/amp modules are shielded and not heavy enough to power stand alone speakers.

4 ohms all around. A multimeter will display roughly 75% of the actual resistance. Notice how each speaker is labeled 3.2 ohms = 4 ohms realistically.

The bose ampifiers are high sensitivity.

Yeah man, Catmaigne is right, just pull out the speakers and look on the back, i have the Bose set up also and i ran an amp and sub in my car so i have some experience with this. there 4 ohm speaker. And if your thinking about doing anything extra like an aftermarket deck/amp/sub, rewire the car, trust me lol. Well worth it. Good luck with whatever your doing!

Has anyone just upgraded the stock Bose sub using the stock box/amp? I just picked up a '96 RS for my Son and he wants to put in a touchscreen to replace the stock cassette head unit. The subwoofer functions now but I wanted to just update the old paper sub with a newer 4 ohm kicker sub.
