My check engine light came on about a month ago and then went away. the light returned about a week later when my mom took the car to work and once again went away as soon as the car was restarted. I borrowed my friends scanner to check for any problems and it came up negative, I guess since the light wasn't on at the time. Should I worry about this at all or just let it go? I haven't done anything to the car other than a Cat-back and I really don't beat on it, and there is no way my mom was.

 

Only times I've had the light do that was for "random misfires".

 

Same here, and it finally wound up being a clogged injector. Keep some good injector cleaner in your gas tank for a while and see if that helps...can't hurt!

 

Come to think of it I did just do that. Hasn't been on since. thanks for the replies. one more thing though would running 87 in the car do that or hurt it?

Ya kno, the guy before me told me he ran nothing but regular and i ran nothin but regular and it ran kinda ****ty after awhile... I even had a tune up and added fuel system cleaner and added seafoam to my crank case and even other people told me it sounded like my timing was off. Now i run nothing but 92 and they asked if i had a rebuild or something because it sounds ALOT better than it did.

 

if u have egr i would have that checked out, my car had the same light going on and off and it was a valve in the egr system that was sticking...
