Another what's it worth topic.
OK, so I hate these types of topics, but I need to know pretty soon. Yesterday I was offered a 1998 LS1 engine, automatic tranny, and computer for $300. The seller doesn't know what mileage on it, or the condition, other than he was told by his "friend" that it was in good shape.
My question is are there enough parts here if the engine and/or trans turns out to need rebuilding to still be worth the $300 asking price? I plan to go look at it, and take jumper cables just to turn it over and do a compression check, but I'd hate to not at least get my $300 back parting it out if it turns out to not be anything more than a core.

do a google on a ls1 block and see if its worth 300. that will tell u if u can recover the bucks if the whole thing is toast. i would say to someone who needs it its worth it and more. obviously if the block or head/s is cracked then stay away.

Sounds like I better give him a call and go get this. Even if I don't have a project to use it on yet. I have been looking at early '50's Chevy trucks, and thought this LS1 and tranny might make a nice project for a truck.
