Cool annoyed with plastic! question!

OK, im shure many of you have the same problem
your pulling into a steep driveway, or you fly across a bump in the road
and SCRAAAPE.

in my case i have never bottomed out the front bumper or scraped the tires in the plastic inner fender. the problem is the plastic guard attached to the front of the frame. lowest part of the vehicle.

so the question is what is the purpose of that piece?
can I take it off or modify it with no repercussions?

The piece that hangs down under the front nose is your air dam/spoiler. It grabs air while driving down the highway and directs it through the radiator. Without it, the engine will run hot. I have to watch some places with my Vette too. On steep driveways, or parking lot bumps, it helps to approach them at an angle instead of straight on.

Drive better? You need that piece, and it isnt a huge deal to scrape it.

its pretty flexible i wouldnt be worried about braking it. on the other hand if you fly into a bad parking lot you can rip it off... ask me how i know

thanks camaro 69. Thats a good thing to know I wasn't aware.
I understand its not a big deal, just a little noise, and a rather unpleasant one at that.

Just got the car on the road again after a loooong rebuild.
takes some getting used to!
Just curious, thanks guys.

It took me hitting a ditch at 60mph to break it in half but it is still functional and luckily nothing else on the car was damaged, so I wouldn't be worried about scraping it a little bit either.

I was bored one day and took mine off, painted it black, and decorated it. Lol.

But like everyone else said, I wouldn't worry about scraping it. I do it all the time. Better that than something major.
