Yeah... I had a mechanic do it for me kuz i have no clue what to do. He just told me he had to take the column apart and install the new part and put it back together and he knows very little about the car but knows his way around electrical parts etc. and it took him 3 hours.

 

man, i try looking for a realy but it seems like there is not way for a realy to fit inside the steering column

 

yeah... im sorry bro i wish i could recite what my mechanic told me but it was too technical for me. Best thing you could do if ur not sure is to just send it to a mechanic.

 

The relay is not inside the steering column, it is under the instrument panel below the driver sideAC duct, on the same bracket as the air bag module. The security module operates the relay which allows power to the starter solenoid.

 

Why would he have to replace something around my steering column related to my key/ignition? That was my problem, something to do with a component around my ignition that reads the pellet.

 

They replaced the ignition switch in the steering column, which also has the contacts that touch the sides of the pellet on the ignition key. The contacts are wired to the security module, which turns on once it sees the right value pellet on the ignition key.Basically what was explained before in this thread.

 

yes the relay is not on the column i just found out in ALLDATA, ok pete so i got some information that states
"if the resistor sensing contacts or CKTs 1073 or 1074 are open or shorted, or if a defective key is being used at the time Ignition is turned on, the "SECURITY" Indicator will flash at a rate of once per second and the Engine will not start; however the 3 minute + or -18 seconds lockout will not be activated."
" lock Cylinder CKTs 1073 and 1074 are continuously monitored and if a fault is detected in the circuits for 1 minute, the indicator will turn "ON". if the fault condition goes away for 1 minute, the indicator will turn "OFF" and the system will funtion as normal. if a lock cylinder circuit fault ( lock cylinder contacts or wiring becomes open or shorted, or if a defective key is detected) while the Engine is "Running", the vehicle can be restarted. the "SECURITY" Indicator will illuminate during this Ignition cycle while the fault is present.

in another information that i got it says that if " the Theft Deterrent Relay must be replaced , also check CKT 6 to the Starter Solenoid for a possible short. A short may have caused the relay to fail."

So by reading this could the blinking security light be because of a bad Lock Cylinder

 

pete when installing a new ignition switch do you need a new key does it come with a new key does it need to be reprogrammed or whats up? can one do it , does it need a special tool scanner etc. can it be done at home?
