Air Conditioner won't cool? Compressor kicks on
 

3.4 V6 I'm having problems with my air not cooling. Compressor kicks on and stays on when air is turned on but no cold air. I put gauges on system and it was like 110 lbs kicked on and 120 with air off. Does that sound like a problem anyone knows about?

With the system on feel the receiver/drier and the smaller diameter line to the evaporator the surface of the receiver/drier should feel cool and the line should feel warm

If that's feels like it should than the system is charge right if not than you have a charge problem

The lines that are supposed to be cool are almost hot
I'm saying the line where you put freon in is what is getting really hot.

Yea I feel I do have a charge problem because of the 120 lbs of pressure. But sometimes the air works and sometimes not.

Yeah the best thing to do is have the system drained and put under vacuum to make sure there is no leaks than a good charge I wish I know the numbers it should be charge to but I'm not sure

I believe the line you put the freon in should be cool or maybe the other way around low side should be hot high side should be cool it's been awhile since I did ac systems

Has anything been done to the system recently? Systems don't over charge themselves. If someone that did not know what they where doing was working on your AC system then you need to drain it and start over. I would also be worried about any work they did because over charging a system is a VERY basic mistake and anyone that did it and did not figure out right away what they did should not be working on AC system.


Your static pressure of 120 PSI sounds about normal but it varies a lot due to outside temps. To me 120 PSI static does not indicate overcharge but it is possible. Once the compressor kicks in the low side pressure should drop and the high side pressure should rise.

If your compressor low side compressor does not drop it is because of mechanical issue with the compressor or you orifice tube has blown out. The blockage that would be caused by water would cause the low side pressure to drop so low the low pressure switch would kick off the compressor and the high would also spike up.

If no one has messed with your system it sounds to me like a valve in the compressor is stuck or broke .

The thin line going from the evaporator to your dash should be warm. The larger diameter hose coming from your dash to the receiver should be colder. The hose going from the compressor to the evaporator should be hot.
