__ My Camaro is only getting 10 mpg city. Causes?

So like the title says I'm only getting about 10-11 mpg. Now before people start bashing me about complaining, just hear me out please.

Its rated at 17 from fuel economy.gov. I just want to make sure nothing is wrong with it cause it does smell like its running rich when i start it up. But even when i drive extremely conservative it still gets the same mpg. I never really punch it cause I've been testing this out for a while. Would a tune help out?

In terms of upgrades its got a slp intake, exhaust, some brand aftermarket headers (the guy forgot the name), but thats it.

Thanks for the help guys. i owe you one

I get 12.

What year and model is the camaro? Could be time for a tune up. So new plug, wires, o2 sensors and fuel filter. A tune would help the fuel economy a little bit but if you have fouled o2 sensors then you'll be running way to rich all the time.

Before you start throwing parts at it, have you scanned for codes?

Not all codes will trip the SES light, and there are literally dozens of potential problems that can cause poor mileage.

Rev your car up with short bursts of throttle in neutral after the car is warm (180*~). Listen for popping noises from the exhaust. That's the sound of unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust system meaning your car is running rich.

Mods?
Codes? Do some digging first.

look for any aftermarket chip in the system. some are plugged inline on a temp sensor. if the 02s are old it would be a good idea to change em. plugs would also be a good idea. check your wires, if looking old or cracking change em. a scann for codes would be inline to see if anything comes up. you need to find out what add ons have been made and have the computer tuned at a place like this LT1 PCM Tuning - OBDI/OBDII PCM Tuning/Programming Service (the one i prefer)

or this PCMforless

Doing the required routine maintenance is not throwing parts at it. Spending hours trying to figure out whats wrong with a car just to find out it needs the routine maintenance is very wastful. With this complaint and no light step one should be make sure all normal maintenance is up to date.

it definitely does pop a lot. and its a 99 z28. there isn't any aftermarket chip, but it does have a few bolt ons (heads, exhaust, intake) and I'm sure it wasn't tuned since the upgrades

By exhaust do you mean headers? If so a possible exhaust leak.

I'm having similar issues. I have a stock '94 V6 3.4L, and I get ~11-13 city and ~14 Highway. I get ~170 miles to the tank. I'm having codes thrown at me with my scanner. it returns the SES light with 3 codes, "EGR Valve 1" "EGR Valve 2" "EGR Valve 3", 75 76 77 codes, and it happens during deceleration from above 50MPH. If anyone could help, thanks.
