99 Camaro Air Intake

Hi All,

I read over some of the suggestions in past posts. Trying to get a more up to date feel and suggestions from current standards.

I have a v6 99 Camaro. I know an air intake wont make that much of a difference but none the less would like to put one in.

I do not have a ram hood. So with that said, I was hoping for suggestions regarding any new types or basic proven good cold air intakes that some of you veterans could suggest. Any help or input is greatly appreciated. I am not limited on any ideas or types of set ups; obviously only limited on the room available under the hood and the restricted air flow due to a basic hood.

Thanks again for any thoughts on this matter!

The best option is the FRA mod which I'm running right now. If you must have an actual intake I recommend building one. I'm currently making plans for a couple of diy intakes. One is a ftra style and the other is a foglight to ram air conversion.

Aftermarket CAI's are pretty much the same when it comes to functionality. They just differ in appearance and price. You can't go wrong with slp.

The slp intakes seem like they wouldn't be as effective as a ftra or ssra where the tube goes all the way down. I'm going to take a shot at fabricating an intake this summer, considering doing the fog light ram air mod running into a ftra/ssra style duct. Possibly totally pointless but dang wouldn't it be cool.

@J-Factor

The effects of the fog light ram air set-up are definitely up for debate, but dang they look good. It just looks like it was always meant to be there.

i know im reviving an old thread but i was curious if one of those $60 cold air intakes off amazon would work on a 96 v6?

Post a link to it. I just used a cheapy off ebay. Its not like a 3800 needs massive CFMs.

Check out my project 96 thread page 7 for pictures. I think they can be restrictive over 5500 RPMs, I was not worried about that since I was building a commuter.

Same intake I had , they are all over ebay, I think I paid $34 9 years ago

Headers are the best bang for the buck on the 96. Stock exhaust manifolds suck 96-98
