96 Crank, no start
 

All right,

I've been posting a lot here since I got my 96 Base Convertible (3800 V6). Originally the car came with a bad fuel pump and a failing tranny.
I'm pretty sure by this point, I've driven the tranny to the ground, so I like to just start the car to keep the fuel circulating while I'm saving up for a new (yard bought) 4L60E.

Last night I started her up and there weren't any noticeable problems. I was walking around the car just because it's a nice car to look at, and all of a sudden the engine cut out. I can still hear the fuel pump run when I turn the key, and I'm getting fuel at the schrader valve on the rail. The coil packs are practically brand new. The contacts for the plug leads are still shining as if they were off the shelf. It sounds like it has compression. For some reason, it just won't turn over.
I even had a friend that's ASE certified take a look and he said that it sounds fine, and that I shouldn't even consider compression as my issue.

No OBD codes are present, though I do suspect my PCM is getting ready to bite the dust. (also looking for suggestions for a new PCM on a budget)

Fuel obviously isn't as I have a working pump, I have fuel at the rail, and you can smell fumes from the exhaust after cranking.
You all probably know how much of a pain it is to pull the plugs on these cars, so are there any diagnostic steps I should take to rule anything else out?

have you checked for spark at the plugs?

also what's the gas gage say? you can have gas at the injectors but if its getting air your not going to get enough pressure to run.

I’ve got about 3/4 of a tank. But I’ll throw some relatively new gas in from a jerry can I have and see if that works

This way of thinking is a problem. You think because you heard a pump that everything in the fuel system is work. All you really know is that the motor is turn. You don’t know if the pump itself is not the problem or a line from the pump to sending unit fell off, maybe the fuel filter is pugged (very common on cars that have been siting). I have seen factory installed hoses inside the sending unit fall off 3 weeks after an install. Normal steps in a no start. Spark tester, they cost less then $10 at most parts stores and you can get them from harbor freight for $4.99 https://www.harborfreight.com/in-lin...ker-63590.html

Signal to the Fuel injector, you will need a noid light, These are lights to check for power and they should blink when cranking.

I think parts stores will sell singles so you just buy the one you need.
