94 z28 shut off while driving all electricity faded after

Help, this never happened before!!!.....my 94 z28 6speed died on me on the freeway.....it shut off while driving & I would usually restart on neutral while still rolling or get it into gear and restart it, but this time none of those worked. My dash lit up and slowly all my electricity also died out....I checked the alternator at it seems to still charge....I've read that it can be my ICM but haven't checked....or a short somewhere. It was fine up to this point???

How did you test the alt? To me it sounds like the alt is the problem.

In addition to the alternator, have the battery load tested. It may have taken a dump.

ya but the alt should handle the power of the car. still get the battery tested. remove the battery and the alt and bring them into the store, the little hand held testers dont produce enough load.

yep for some reason the alternator is not getting power to the battery, dead battery, either way need to test both. running a battery completely dead can kill it. lol, older batteries are more likely to keel over if completely drained. once the battery gets so low the ignition system will not work so engine dies, because battery is low it dies soon after. going to need to get the battery on a charger.

Yes and no. If the battery can't hold a charge, that's one thing. But if the battery has an internal short, that can put a strain on the alternator, and bog it down to where the electrical system won't be getting enough juice.

Tested at alternator shop

In regards to the battery I had just purchased one but not brand new, it's one of those rebuilt/remanufactured ones still under warranty.

A rebuilt battery? Maybe it has a bad bearing. ;)
