Default 94 Z28 Evap/Fuel system smell

I have 94 Z28, 41,000 original miles.

The car wreaks of of fuel when I shut it off. I've had it back to the dealer at least 6 times trying to deal with this. The smell seems to be most prominent around the rear drivers well where the evap system is.

They replaced the WHOLE evap system but the car still stinks of fuel.

Now they're telling me the system is "open" on 93-95 cars and the smell is perfectly normal.

I'm not buying it.

HELP!

Your gas cap should be sealed, try examining it for leaks.

The EVAP canister is located in the drivers side wheel well under a plastic cover (it's a PITA to remove). Try peeling it back and feel around for the lines leading to and from the canister to make sure they're plugged in.

Yeah, don't buy it. If you had an "open" vent system (which you don't), then you wouldn't have an evap system. If that was the case then, what did they just finish replacing?
Did they smoke test your evap system to try and find a leak (video below). Also, you could have a leak at one of the fuel lines, way up on top of the gas tank, where it's hard to spot.

Well...

They've "supposedly" replaced the cannister, lines, valves, solenoid, and smoke tested it... and everything works "fine."

I'm not sure what to look for at this point.

I generally do most of my own work but I'm just not familiar enough with F-bodies at this point to feel comfortable.

always ask for the old parts when having work done. have you looked the system over to see if the parts look new. agree with 69 if all the evap is new and has checked out then the next step is look at the fuel system. could the smell be coming from the exhaust?

I've gotten most of the old parts minus the lines, of course.

Definitely not exhaust.

I took it in again today and they smoke and pressure tested it as well as went through the factory EVAP system diagnostic and it passes every test with flying colors.

BUT... its gotten so bad I can't drive the car anymore.

I'm lost.

Can you get under the car and reach up with a mirror to see what you can see on top of the gas tank? If you're sure the smell is coming from the back, then I'm still thinking a fuel line or junction leak, or possibly at the sending unit.

I completely agree but I can't get these guys to look up there.

Guess I'll have to do it myself :/

Ok everyone. Got around to smoke testing the car today at a friends shop and it was blatantly obvious where the leak was (and also that the stealership had NEVER tested it).

Its leaking from the line that travels between the canister and valve.

Does anybody know if or where I can get that line? I know its been obsoleted through GM.

i think both are fuel/oil lines, one part #9438381 evap canister purge hose is 5/32 and one #9438315 evap canister hose is 5/16. should be able to get some at the local parts store and cut to fit. part numbers show as bulk hose.
