94 camaro overheating issue...?
 

i have a 94 camaro and it keeps overheating. the problem is the fan is running but for some reason the temperature gauge shoots straight up to 260. this has been happening more and more frequently the past week. tonight was the first time it happened in a few days and i'm so confused on what the problem is. i thought it could be the fuel injector [it might have been clogged or w/e] so i put fuel injector in it and it was actually better for 2 days but not all of a sudden it's getting hot really fast [within 10 minutes of driving it] the way i dealt with it tonight was to shut the car off for 5 minutes, then i blasted the heat [which isn't really even heat because the cars heat doesn't work but it seemed to cool down the engine a little bit] and drove it home. does anyone know whats going on? i'm scared i'm going to ruin my engine because i can't figure out this problem. thanks.

i just thought i'd add this... i will take it to a mechanic if no one here knows what the problem is however i can't seem to find one that i trust and i'm looking to see if this is a problem i can fix myself. thanks.

thanks for that answer. i have been noticing a lot of rust in my radiator. i see from the first answer that a blockage in the radiator can cause the engine to overheat. i've flushed out my radiator twice already, and still the rust is there. is there anyway to fix my radiator or will i have to buy a new one?

you may have corrosion inside the radiator itself

Sounds like the theromstat is stuck with the increase in temp that fast or a bad water pump. With corrosion in the rad, it might have gathered on the thermostat not allowing it to open when needed. Pretty good write up on overheating!

i'm changing the thermostat soon. hopefully that will make a difference.. i'll update. thanks
