69 Z28 Block Casting # Question
 

Hi,
I have a 1969 Daytona Yellow/Black Z28 DZ 302. My question is the block casting # is 3932388. Now I looked this # up and it gives me two motors for the same number, 302 Z28, and a 350 used in other cars. Is this correct? How would I know which is which? Do I have a correct motor car? Please let me know if you hve any insight. Thanks. Eric

The 302 used the same block as the 350 and had the same bore, so I suspect they both came off the same production runs & had the same casting numbers. The difference was in the crankshaft. The engine serial number may give more info. The 302 was particular to the IROC Z, and was designed to meet IROC race specs.

The block code is correct, as already mentioned the engine code is as or even more important..........The engine code is located on a machined pad on the passenger side of the block, just under the head. This stamped-in series of numbers sometimes contains part of the vehicle identification number as well as the engine code. All 1969 302 CID Z/28 engines were stamped with engine code DZ; any other code indicates that the engine isn't original. This is a very critical code: Having a replacement 350 small-block or big-block detracts from the car's desirability and value....I love copy paste ......... read the code look it up or post it here if the block has been decked the code will be gone aaarg... at that point the only thing to do is to measure the stroke or possibly get the crank code????

Being lucky to have had 3 69Z28 i can tell you for a fact that the first 2 letters in the right side of block will be DZ now the following figures an letters don't always match the vin # The vin # for some cars is in the rough casting at the spin on oil filter you have to look close but its there if its a true Z . If none of the letter and figures on the block or oil filter casting match your vin then its not a Z The 69 Z had large journals on the crank and the 68 Z small journals....

Do you mean the DZ should be stamped on the block deck or the dz is cast on the block in the back near the bellhousing? I have a line on a 010 block 302 engine with a spun rod bearing what would it be worth if the # are intact?
