The 80s/90s Porsche 911 seems to be the exception as they have skyrocketed in value.

 

Its a popularity contest. Back the early 2000's the first gen camaros sky rocked in value. Several A list Celebrities got them, In less then 8 years the price when up between 4-8 times depending option and rarity. I am not saying this was a good thing because they became a status symbol for non-car people and disappeared from cruise nights and ended up in high end garages.

I can remember in 1989 one of our VERY well of customer telling me what a great investment cars are. He had bought 5 numbers matching 57 dual 4 barrel chevy rag top and he had 3 duesenberg. Through the 80's both of those cars climbed in value insanely fast but even then the dusey was a million dollars and the 57's were 90K ish. Problem was they had maxed out. Now we are approaching 30 years and those cars are with 20% more then their 1990 value, I doubt that even meets inflation. Add in the maintenance/upkeep and they are a huge drain. Now had he bought first gen Camaro in 1990 and sold them in 2007 that would have been the money, but who knew.

 

Thanks for responding. However I still believe the late 4th Gen Camaro SS, 01-01 Cars were a marvel of engineering and maybe the most underrated American muscle car of all time. You felt like you were part of the Car, like sitting in a Jet. Reminds me of the 90-94 C4 ZR1. The handling, instant power, ease of burn outs, the high speed acceleration and the beautiful looking functional Ram-Air Hood was amazing. If I had the money back then to buy ten 2002 black Camaro SSs then stow them away in some paid for warehouse....

 

I was a GM tech when the ZL1 with the LT5 was released I was even lucky enough to ride in a early prototype and the GM tech center that had belt driven cams. The ZL1 was a $28,000 upgrade, and now 27 years later you can buy the 1990 ZL1 all day long for less then the upgrade costs. Great engineering and value do not go hand in hand. The late 60 early 70 Chrysler muscle cars are some of the worst engineered cars at the time yet today they are the most valuable.

Back in the day the SS meant 12 bolt rear, muncie 4 speed and a 4 bolt main performance bases engine. These SS drive lines are still sought after and valuable today. I don't think the future will be kind to what GM called an SS in the 4th gen. It is just a Z28 with some bolt on parts.

 

Great story but you mean the ZR1. Not the ZL1? I disagree about the 4th Gen Camaro SS. Highly underrated Muscle Car. How strange there is no following today of this era Camaro! Sad.

So when I say an 4th gen SS is a Z28 with bolt on parts what do you disagree with? What did SLP do to the SS that I can't do in my driveway in a few hours? Is the SS faster then none SS V8? Why?

I don't think riding in a prototype while I was in training at the GM tech center counts as being part of the making. The LT-4 is a toy compared to the engine I have spent the last two years working on.

this site seems to have more 4th gen owners or talk i would say the 4th gen is the more busy section hear at this forum from what i see ,but not many of them around hear where i live ,people often ask what is that an others say i know its a camaro ,nice there now more poular then most 3rd gen cars ,i dont see many of them either ,see alot of new ones camaro ,an alot of new dodge mopar challanger,an charger too,
