a 454 in a 97 z28

Default a 454 in a 97 z28

hi new to the fourms and i would like to know how much work is required to make a big block fit into a 97 z28 and putting a th400 in it too. is it worth all of the work?

i dont think a 454 would fit really, but im not sure....

Not really worth the trouble for a 454 as u can get a small block out to 427 without all the hassle and make about the same power. If you were going to over 500 inches it may be worth the trouble. It has been done before, but it takes a lot of fabrication and body/chassis mods. It was also done by John Moss @ GM special vehicles several years ago as a one off sample, using a 502 crate engine. It was not the best handling thing around, but was pretty quick in the quarter.

Wasn't that 502 in Car and Driver vs. the Boss Mustang by SVT? Those things were some bad machines!

Yeah, they were written up in some car magazine, but I can't remember which one.

I had that issue. It was Car and Driver. Quite the showdown.

It will fit but requires alot of fabrication plus you will need to cut back the cowl area, unless you relocate the engine lower and more forward somehow. BTE 454's are not really that great untill you build them up, just like any other engine. I would keep the small block and build it up.
