3rd gen motor in 4th gen
Is it poasible to drop a 3rd gen (iroc z) motor into my 95 camaro? If possible what all is entailed to do it? I can get a free motor,tran.. also what rear end and drive shaft would i have to use?

the reason i was asking i was wanting a z28 and found one for 3 grand but my brother inlaw wrecked his iroc and the motor and everything is fine i was kinda wanting to do a updated iroc like an iroc motor and do a paint scheme from the iroc and all the badges and put it on my 4th gen. I think it would be kind of cool to do havnt really seen people do that turn a 4th gen into an iroc.
I seriously doubt chevy will ever make another iroc again and it would be a nice tribute as IROC is International Race Of Champions i wanna do it i just need to know what all needs to be done as its gonna be almost the same work if i did the lt1 swap and if the gains are similar why not use something thats already free

It would be a lot of work. There is going to be a ton of things to figure out, An "iroc" motor is still a first generation small block. You would have to start with a LT1 sub frame not the V6. Next you would have to make an oil pan and modify the motor mounts just to get the motor mounted to the frame.
Just go check out the project section to see what all is involved there is not real difference between and Iroc motor and an old carbed chevy small block.
FYI the 305 TPI is only rated at 230 HP and it has much less torque then the Lt1. If the motor is a L98 350 TPI (they where both put in Irocs) it would be a lot closer in HP and torque. The 305 has kind of a weak bottom end to begin with. You really do not want to put it in a hvy 4th gen.
Go find a nice V6 3rd gen. They can be found with motor issues for $500-1000. Two weekend of work and your down the road in a nice car. The SBC conversion take months in some case over a year to completer and end up costing big money.

gorn i couldn't find the thread with the v6 to carb'd v8, i think he had like 4k into the switch with 1k towards the engine. that still leaves 3k if the same work is done. that would be 6k into a car that will have a value of 3k or less.

I think the guy quoted 5K in this one. https://camaroforums.com/forum/93-02...4-5-7-a-45720/
The above one he was over 10k.
