35th Anniversary Z28 Convertible
Hi guys! I don't post here a lot but I do lurk a ton, you guys are real knowledgeable so I thank you in advance!
Right now I drive a 96 3.8 Camaro RS, but I really want a Z28 or Trans am. A guy that lives real close to me is selling a 35th Anniversary edition Z28 convertible with 82,XXX miles. Black on black leather, Stock chrome rims, stock everything actually. He only wants $8500 for it. He mentioned on the car fax it was in a minor collision, no frame damage though. It did look like the fenders didn't line up well with the hood, but it was hard to tell cause it was raining. I'm gonna go back there with my dad and take a better look. Over all the car looked pretty good, only thing is I hate the front ends on the '98 and up Camaro's. Looks like a catfish or Chrysler Sebring.
I'd bring it to a mechanic to get checked out first before buying, but what do you guys think? Opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Should I give him a deposit to hold the car for me? I've been in car buying situations where I failed to give a deposit and they sell the car to someone else. Thanks again.

It sounds like a good price but I would have it checked out especially with an accident on its record, it will be hard to resell later. I learned that the hard way with my 98 SS..the buyer ran a carfax (which I never did, because I'm a dummy) and it came back with an accident from 2000 which was 8 years before I owned it..and it became hard to sell afterwards

Thanks! Yeah I'm def. gonna have it looked at to make sure the repairs were done right! If I get it I plan to replace the hood, rims and lower it a bit. Right now the stance looks horrible, it looks like a 4x4. To much wheel well! And it could use a good compound/waxing/tune up.

I would haggle the price a bit more. I'm telling you right now if you ever go to sell the car later you wont be able to get that much with an accident on the carfax and you can forget about ever trading it in. I would sleep on your decision. I just went through it all a few months ago and its not easy to sell a car with damage on a carfax. So you could most likely get it for a better price. Maybe offer him 7000 cash.

Try to haggle the price but if I were you I'd hold out for an SS, WS6 T/A or Firehawk. The only thing special about the 35th anniversary cars was the 02 LE SS camaro's, the others got a shiny little emblem and that's it. But honestly if it was in a accident I'd keep on looking. Good luck with your search

What do you guys think of this Trans am? Looks really clean to me.

Thanks for the advice. I've never driven an LT1 but I have driven an LS1 and it's pretty damn fast. I liked it better than the supercharged 2011 CTS-V I drove. Not as fast but I felt more connected with the car. The exhaust is way to quiet on the Cadillac. I would like to get a manual but they seem rare.
In New York everybody wants like $6500 for their WS6 Trans ams with like 170K miles on them. And the ones with Decent miles go for $10K plus. That's why I was looking at LT1's. I saw a Trans am the other day that was in a front end wreck. Needed a new hood, both fenders, both headlights, and god knows what else. Guy wanted $5500!
