3.4l valve cover leaks
 

could someone point me in the direction for valve covers or something that may help? replaced the gaskets a year ago with cork and red red RTV (going with rubber and black this time heard rubber may be better) and im sure i may have over torqued the bolts causing the cork to puncture, but what i need is new covers and valve cover washers, when i got the vehicle it was missing them and in got the first ones i could find and they only barely worked, since then I've noticed they have maneuvered themselves into a position where they don'
t hold anything down anymore, please any suggestions im sure im covers are fine but i need those washers!!! thanks in advanced!

these are the exact washers i have currently on, on the four end bolts i have the original washers which were much shorter and stiffer as well as the bolt offset was way less harsh

Two things,first make sure all surfaces are squeaky clean. I like to do a final wipe down with a clean rag and alcohol,it's cheap evaporates quick and leaves no residue.
Then second,don't overtighten them ,this is probably the most common mistake people make.
I like to use the sealant sort of like contact cement,I apply a thin layer to the cover and a thin layer on the gasket then let it tack up a bit so it gets nice and sticky.
At that point I apply the gasket to the cover and lightly press it into place. Then I apply a thin layer on the other side of the gasket and to the head and let it tack up for a few minutes before putting the cover back on. Set the cover on gently so as not to disturb the gasket and put the bolts in and tighten just snug not crushing the gasket.
Let it harden up overnight before running the engine then maybe snug it down just a little more (not much!).
Run the engine up to operating temp for a while then let it cool down and check to see the bolts are still snug but don't squish the gasket.

what about washers?? those are the biggest problem imo

call around the local wrecking yards to see if you can find some valve covers in decent shape for a reasonable price.
