It can be done but you will basically need a donor car because you will need the wiring harness, PCM, engine cradle, tranny, rearend, etc, etc, etc. Unless you just want a BIG project, you can replace the 3.8 with a donor 3.8 from a salvage yard or get your rebuilt. What type issues you having with it?

Your best bet then would be to replace the 3.8 with a donor from a salvage yard. They don't have to come from a camaro. There are several front wheel drive vehicles that have the same 3.8 block and you can change over everything external from your origninal motor. I did see a post, I think on here somewhere, where someone swapped the engine to a V8 and I believe they said it cost 5K when it was all complete.

I definitely agree that swapping out for another 3.8 is your best bet. Obviously, finding another donor Camaro or Firebird would be easiest, because it would just be plug & play, but FWD 3800 engines are plentiful and fairly easy to find.

If you are fully funding your project then I say do it. I would really do some research (analysis) to see what you are going to need because there is a lot involved with changing out a 3800 V6 to a LT1. You will have to find a donor car (93 to 97) in order to find the correct wire harness, cross member, etc...I thought about doing that myself but I realized it would be easier to find a car with an LT1 in it. I figure I would just take the time to learn and gain knowledge about the 4th Generation Camaro's.
