2000 Camaro 3800 won't start
Hi, I'm hoping I can get some help here. I bought a 2000 camaro 3.8 that was running and only needed some minor work. Now all of a sudden it won't crank. It don't even try. Here's what I know so far.
Battery is fully charged Power is going to starter The purple wire on s terminal is not getting signal Power is going through the the yellow wire from the ignition Fuses and relays are good What I don't know is where the purple wire from s terminal goes (neutral safety safewitch I guess) wherever that is. No security light comes on and I understand it goes from switch, to neutral safety switch, theft deterrent relay than starter? Please help before I loose my mind Chris |
what work was done? this a manual trans?
|
Did you grab the manual from the manual section? It looks like the Neutral Safety Supplies the power to the Starter relay and the body control module supplies the ground.
Is everything else working normally? Do you hear the fuel pump? radio and dash lights? |
No, sadly it's an automatic. Yes the headlights wotk, reverse lights come on when put in reverse, starter and ignition relay is good, the fuel pump kicks on. Everything works as it should but will not crank. I ran a jumper from the battery to the shop terminal and the starter spins. I'm looking for the theft deterrent relay but I can't find it. Tried to bypass the neutral safety switch by jumping the purple and green wire also but that didn't help either.

Where is the manual section?

Thanks. Well I ended up trying something. I ran a jumper wire from the yellow wire on the ignition to the shop terminal on the starter. Started right up. I might just leave it like that. I guess I'm bypassing the neutral safety and TDR.. IDK, but it works

I would not leave it like that ,an find out wich wire you need to make done the right way
|
Sometimes the ignition switch in the column and the key (with resistor) don't connect well over time. I just pull the knee panel and put in a resistor on the orange wire that matches the key. Then I don't have to replace the ignition switch which can be above $300.

The theft deterrent relay is under the dash just to the left of the glove box. I have never seen these go out though.
