1996 LT1 Opti seal. WET or DRY?
#2
When I did mine, I lubed the opti shaft, I didn't want to slide it in dry. No leaks so far. Could be they mean not to lube around the seal where it fits to the housing, definitely don't lube there. I like how instructions can sometimes be a bit foggy. Are you replacing the water pump seal too? There's a right and a wrong way to do that one.

I am replacing water pump seal and drive shaft and chain. Cover is in place. Lower 2 seals installed. I had to buy an LT1 service kit to remove the shaft. It has tools for installing the WP seal. I just have a hard time imagining that you would not lube a seal surface prior to install.

I know. I even tried to search it online and got conflicting opinions. Some say dry because it will help to seat the seal onto the shaft. Others said no, oil it so it doesn't snag or scratch anything on the way in, with no later issues lubing it. Flip a coin. Good thing you got the water pump seal install tool. I had to make my own.
