Here in IL, only cars 1996 and newerneed to be emissions tested. That just changed from last year when it was 1968 and newer cars needing testing. Anything 1995 and older used to get the sniffer/dyno test. My Camaro failed twice (go figure) even with one of the carbs pinched way down. So, they gave me a form to send into the State so I could get it classified as a race car. And I could still drive it on the street too. Sometimes it's a good thing when the left hand of government doesn't know what the right hand is doing!
So, now you pull in, they check for a cat and then plug their computer into the OBDII port for a reading, and that's it. They don't even pop the hood to see what's under there. The big trick would be to get the carbed engine to pass the OBDII test.

Spartan, there's no way that anyone would be able to win in court trying to sue a parts store for selling off road parts. They're specified "off road" and the shop has them listed as such, the shop is no longer liable for what you put that part on once it leaves their store. They're assuming you're using it for a racecar that is going to be trailered to the track. Racecars aren't illegal to have, how can you sue for something that's legal?

If you put an engine in your car that it didn't come with, then you have to go to a referee station. They have to inspect the installation, emission test it, certify it, and put a little sticker on the driver side door jamb. I wen't to a referee station with my dad after he put an LS1 in a C3. This stuff does vary state to state, JD is correct. I however think that in most places you can get away without going to a referee station. Worst case scenario, is that it can't get any worse than going to a referee station seeing as how thats how it works out here in California where they are emission *****.

Again Spartan the laws vary from to state, stop acting like you know what the laws/rules are 1000 miles away from you. Go ask your tech instructor about the emmision laws in Illinois, I bet he has no clue about them.

LOL, citizens dieing, right...

There have been farming communities for over a hundred years running vehicles with no emissions restrictions and they're living perfectly fine. Everyone is so concerned about the environment and "global warming" but the truth is, nobody actually knows if global warming even exists! The earth has natural warm/cold cycles that it goes through and we could be on the "warming" side of that. In all actuality I don't think that humans can produce enough toxins/pollutants to really affect the atmosphere. The amount of gaseous volume that surrounds our planet is stifling compared to the amount of toxins automobiles can put out. If an area doesn't have emissions right now it's not going to change because they're "killing the citizens and environment" it's going to be because some environmentalist is going to complain to the government.

Your right in 20 years maybe there might be flying cars too. Do you understand that your argument has no logic? As a matter of fact my state just relaxed the emission laws on 95 and older (OBDI) vehicles. You wondered awhile back why people were annoyed with you, well this is why.
