1994 project...questions from a newb

FINALLY getting a 4th gen! ok, its a bit beaten up...but im on a budget here...so i cant pass this one up...the guy wants it off his lot.. hes asking $2.100 OBO.... im shooting for the OBO part... i wont pay 2.100 for it... i might as well get one that doesnt need work for 3-4 grand..

can you guys tell me how much i should offer this dude? its near fontana california.. "location matters i guess"

FYI.. ill be doing all the repairs...with used junkyard parts

cons

1) needs 1/4 panel work "driver rear corner by tailight, fixable"
2) needs front back bumpers
3) needs paint job
4) needs new badges
5) needs both airbags fixed
6) interior is tan and missing some plastic
7) automatic

pros

1) its a z28
2) its not a salavaged title
3) undercarrage looks dry and clean as hell
4) engine "seems" ok..i test drove it... feels solid
5) engine is SPOTLESS
6) bran near rubber
7) all glass is good

questions:

1) do the automatics have posi?
2) can i replace all the SRS components with junkyard parts?
3) if i make it a 6 speed will i need to "re-chip" anything?

thanx

The paint and airbags alone could cost you a few grand, are you doing that your self? Honestly unless you offer him less than 1000 you could be screwing yourself. How many miles does it have? Did you carfax it?

just baed off option 1 in the cons I would not mess with it. unless you got it for a 1k. You are easily looking at 2k with body work and paint.

Yeah you're better off finding a decent Camaro even if you have to pay a little more for it. It's going to be a major pain to get all the work done not to mention the $$$ you're going to pay out. Then there is the possibility of finding those "hidden" problems since the car is beaten up. Your call kid but good luck with your decision.

It's your call. I'm just getting into Chevys myself and looking to get a Camaro. But with all the different cars and trucks I have owned (ranging from 4x4 Toyota to Nissans, to Plymouth RoadRunners) if I was buying that I would go to a couple places and get quotes on what it would cost to get the parts from local shops and get it painted. I'd then take the quotes up there, hand them to the guy and say "That's how much it'd be to fix this car up, I'll give you (insert 800-1000)." That is just me though. It definately needs work and as everyone has said, it will take a lot of fix it up. In my opinion if he takes it, you might get something to work on and fix up and an ok deal, if he doesn't take the offer than it sits on his lot longer and you can A. Find another car that is in better shape and takes less fixing or B. Come back later and say "Hey.. You willing to take 1k now?" Only someone looking for a cheap project car is going to buy that camaro, imo.
