Wheel size help

Wanting to upgrade my 85 Camaro,305.
I have P225170r14 on the car but would like to upgrade to a thiker back tire.
I called kal tire in Canada but they were no help and im in a small town.
Wondering what the max size is I could put on the back?
I use to have a 87 Camaro that had "as I was told" 18's but kal tire said they didnt know what I was talking about.
Any help appreciated.

Some tire companys only put oem sized rubber on tires (Had it happen when we tried to get tires for my mom's HHR. Front tires were thicker then normal and they refused to sell us tires). I think your best bet is to search around on the internet and call around.

Simple really. Thicker = Fatter = Wider.

Is that a guess or you know the lingo???? If it is fact, the next time I need tires I will ask for the thickest tires they have.

If I was guessing, I'd guess "thicker" ment a deeper sidewall; like 40-50-60 series sidewall. A 60 being "thicker" than a 40.
