That is a filter that goes to your brake booster. The other end either goes to the intake manifold for vacuum or if memory serves me there is a fitting on the back of the carb on the lower portion for it.
And you can reply and put pics in your orginal thread

You should have a pipe coming from the manifold that does a "whoop-de-do" up and over the rear portion of the drivers side valve cover. The short rubber hose on the filter goes on that line and the right angle fittinggoes to the power brake booster.

No the filter wont be missed. You don't see them on newer cars. But the connection between the booster and the intake will be missed.

That engine compartment reminds me of my 84's. Except I had the Chevrolet chrome covers and timing cover and the triangle Edelbrock signature series and when I put all that on the engine was clean!
Was your Check Engine light on before? If not then go back over what you did. you may have unplugged a wire and forgot it.

Nor did older cars have them either. Somewhere along the line, someone must have been concerned with avoiding the chance of foreign materials getting sucked into the brake booster, such as...oil, fuel, nuts, bolts, dead mice, sticks, stones, broken bones, and the occasional Ford that gets inhaled and spit out!

since I replaced my air filter housing, do I still need to use this sensor. Two problems I'm having choke light, and engine light. Car is running better, but now having trouble starting? what the hell!
