well assuming you are talking about just turning the innards most likely to bring it up to tdc then yes its just using a socket wrench on the end of the crankshaft nut. however if you are talking about trying to start the engine then i dont see you accomplishing that. there is no way you can manually turn it fast enough for it to start

If you were to use an impact gun you may be able to start it. Never know til you try...

bar it over clockwise so that it is turning the correct direction, as well as "tightening" the bolt.

hmmm i would think those engines would be a lot easier to manually than these engines....but i may be wrong! lmao. would be kind of an interesting story though.

yeah i was trying to bring my engine up to tdc and i put the breaker bar on and turned then all of a sudden it just fired up. breaker bar went right through my radiator =[ lol

That's the way it used to happen back then, except it meant for some broken fingers or worse if the engine kicked back. And before any smartass says anything...NO I wasn't alive back then!
If you plan on doing a lot of hand turning, removing the spark plugs will make the job a lot easier.

He he,just shortly after 'eh.

I wasn't either but I used to have this old 1937 CAT 22 with a hand crank starter so I know how to start the old time stuff.
