rookie Broke a rod bolt

I recently started assembling my 383 vortec stroker thats going into my 86 berlinetta, this is the first ever build I have done and a freind of mine who has built a couple motors was helping me. We assembled the crank and the pistons and was about to torque down the rod bolts when his torque wrench broke. Unfortunatly he could not help me for a couple days so he told me to go out and buy a torque wrench and torque the rod bolts to specs in the meanwhile. The next day I purchased one from oreilys and "thought" i knew what I was doing. I set it 25lbs to get the hag of it, for some reason the torque wrench never clicked and i kept tightening and broke the rod bolt. It seems the only thing i harmed was the bolt itself how hard is it to find a replacement and how can i tell if i damaged anythig else also will a replacement throw the stroker kit out of balance?

Your parts store will help you with the bolt. I would weigh the new and old bolts and find out the difference. I would take torque wrench back and get some plastic gauge, and measure that rod and bearing under normal torque and see if the clearance is alright. You might need a new rod bearing on that one. Keep us informed.

Rod bolt should be available at any parts store for a smallblock Chevy. There's not enough weight difference to even waste time measuring. Check the length against a good one, and if it matches, you're good. They simply tap in, so I'd tap a good one out and buy a pair for that rod end.
