Restoration cost ( guestimation)
hello to all here, and thanks for all that you people have helped me with . i got one more question.
as most of you who have read my threads know i have an 86 Z-28 that i intend to restore with my father now that i am more financially secure.
my question is this: how much do you think i will have in restore the camaro? heres what i got to do to it
1. Replace both fenders
2. replace ground effects
3.replace nose
4.replace grille
5. replace hood unless i can find someone to weld a new piece in it .
6. restore the comlete interior
7. restore fuel tank and fuel system ( has a half tank of 9-12 month old gas in it )
8. redo suspension
9. redo brakes
10. rebuild engine and transmission
11. new exhaust.
how much do you think i will have in this car. im planning on putting 5,000 into it to get the ball rolling . and what else should i look at as far as replacing or repairing, im not gonna have a lick of bondo in this car. thanks for the help

RE: Restoration cost ( guestimation)
5000 would be a good start. It all depends where you can get the body parts from. I once got a hood and 2 fenders for my old car for $80 on craigs list. Its a good place to start. go on CL and post a wanted add for the body parts.

would buying a " parts car" be wise to use parts off of it for a restoration? i know where theres an 88 that has good doors, fenders , hood, nose , grille for 700.00 or should i just go new.

Shop around. A parts car may be good. You might even be able to use the tank from it.
Check prices on body partsat classicindustries.com, nextgenparts.com, goodmarkindustries.com. They all carry oem and aftermarket parts.
Suspension, brakes and engine needs you can check out summitracing.com
I found front and rear seat upholstry kits already sewn up duplicates of oem for like $350 for third gens. I will try to find it again.

Ide buy the parts car, you can get your ground effects, nose fenders, grille, hood, complete interior, and possibly the fuel tank if it is any good. I think a parts car is the best way to go, if that doesnt work, find the closest junkyard, sometimes can be a goldmine for a person of your interests. If your going to rebuild the engine, find out what needs to be done before you spend any money on it. If its going to cost too much to rebuild, consider a new engine whether it be brand new or used, same with the tranny.

parts car for the win. get one that has a blown engine, or some rear end damage or something, and have your way with it. otherwise, id say under $10,000 fully prepped, painted, and back to factory showroom condition.
