Default New to the 3rd Gen scene...

Just bought a 92 bird w/ a 3.1 auto...

I'm not looking to do a swap yet, maybe this winter, but I was wondering what exactly needs to be done...specifically the trans...

it has the 700r4, can I just get a V8 bellhousing to put on the trans as is? or is it not that simple?

I would do a pre-79 engine, so I wouldn't use a computer at all...

V8 bellhousing
Suspension
motor mounts
cowl hood (would use a aftermarket intake man.)

anything else?

The bell house is part of the trans. All one piece. If it was a T5 manual then you could swap it that way but not with an automatic.

Its just another part you can't use. Unless you need a core

i thought that the v6 had a bolt on conversion that mated the regular bell housing to the v6? if not, that sucks. the 700r4 is a decent tranny. however in your case, you might have one with a lockup converter, which would require a computer for that, but only that. i know theyre availible. the later model 700r4's are stronger (87-up), but the 86 and below didnt have the lockup converter.

All the 700R4s' had a lock up converter. My 84 did for sure. There is a unit you can get from summit for it they are around $80 or there is a more involved one for double that.

I'm looking for a bellhousing adapter right now...

What about this 350 performance package? How much power would be expected with this...

You will proably need a different driveshaft with the bell housing adaptor.

Also you might wanna try jegs, their prices usually beat everyone elses prices.

my car doesnt have one? i tried the little paperclip into the ALDL to test for it, but nothing. its an 1800 stall, which i think is stock. i know its not original, maybe they didnt install the proper converter?

More likely some one did not install the right converter. Do you have the square four wire conector on the trans?
