Need some help with ground locations on head
 

I just finished putting the heads back on my 305 4bbl Camaro after changing the head gaskets and valve seals. There bolt bolted down and torqued and now im starting to hook some of the wiring up, but im having some trouble. There is a ground strap going from the passenger side firewall, as well as two other eyelet terminals coming out of the harness on the passenger side, towards the back of the head. Im just not sure what they get bolted down to. If anyone can tell me the where the ground locations are for these wires, that would be great. I believe two came off the back of the head, but i don't know where the strap connected to the firewall goes.

the 2 wires go to the head and im pretty sure the firewall strap goes to the block (i did headgaskets on a 90 firebird 305 a couple years ago so i might be wrong)

yes, those all get bolted to the back of the head. you NEED all of them or else the engine wont run correctly, and if it does, you will be replacing wheel bearings in about 5k miles

I'm curious to hear too, how lack of ground can cause tapered wheel bearings (that have no electrical connection to the chassis) to fail?

Thanks. I got those connected and now i just have one more question about the distributor wiring. With the two small connectors that connect side by side into the distributor cap, which one goes on the left and which goes on the right? One has a brown connector and the other is tan.

the wheel bearings are the only other possible ground to chassis from the motor. engine and trans mounts are rubber, so the next metal connection from motor to chassis is wheel bearings to the strut tower. yes, the motor has a ground to the battery, but nothing to chassis

^ That's a nice theory, but ground wouldn't be traveling through the wheel bearings unless there was a wired connection on the outer part....on the spinning wheel hubs. Good luck keeping a ground wire from getting all wrapped up on that one!!! ;) Ground would/could travel up through the spindle and strut/tower instead, but it would be bypassing the bearing.

crap, i was thinking fwd cars. theres actual photographic examples in my school text book. rwd is usually rear wheel bearings. through drivetrain, axles, wheel bearings, and through the suspension, depending on condition of spring pads, parking brake cable, shocks, etc.
