Appearance wise a 305 & a 350 look alike. However; in 3rd gen models only certain models could have a 350 and it always had a TPI induction ( also a 305 TPI was identical). The Vin's eighth digit is the engine code, a 350 TPI is a (8) and 305 TPI is a (F). Anything esle stock would be a Carb or TBI 305. 99 44/100 % of sellers will claim a car has a 350 when it dose NOT.

5-sp is the kicker....NO factory 350 came with that tranny. So the Vin code will be (F) for a 305 TPI.

Your VIN is no guarantee of what you do have, nor is it a guarantee that a previous owner hasn't swapped in a different engine (done all the time). Checking the engine itself is the only sure way of knowing what you have. Depending on the vintage of the block, you could have a 5.0 or 5.7 cast on the bellhousing flange.
