Need help with '87 305

i am having trouble trying to select a carburetor that will work with my '87 camaro. the one currently on the motor is an electric choke with two connections for plugs, it is a rochester e4me with the sideways fuel lines. now the problem is now when we start the vehicle it will idle for maybe 15-20sec then it becomes flooded.
i am trying to rebuild this car for a family member that just recently started driving. the only thing that has been done was the intake/carb were taken off so the intake could be cleaned and painted. so nothing on the carb was touched or taken apart.

anyone have any insight/suggestions?

The rochester is probobly the best option for that car. It will need to be a computer controlled carb. My guess is get that one rebuilt, or core exchange it for a new one. Swapping carbs will most likely lead to:

1. failure of emissions test (if you don't have them...they're coming)
2. loss of MPG
3. poor performance

Yup, DJS383 is right. The best option is to get that Rochester rebuilt. Holley used to make an after market carb that was compatible with the 3rd gen computers, but I'm not sure if they still produce them.

get a rebuild kit, cant be much more than $30. take it all apart carefully and clean everything. it sounds like the floats are sticking, but you might as well clean, set, and adjust everything

I remember reading that there is a mixture control solenoid in these carbs. This manual may be helpful.
