Default many questions

i have a 86 camaro base coupe, with a 305 4bbl lg4 engine. question is, exactly what does my ecm control on my engine? i have a edelbrock performer 600 carb, hooker headers, and a stock 1980 small block chevy distributor i would like to put on, and eliminate the ecm completely. i need to know what else the computer controls, and i havent bought an intake yet, would should i look for in an intake? i was told to go with a dual plane low profile intake to match my 2:73 rear end and overdrive transmission, and i would like to go edelbrock with the intake also. help would be much appreciated.

The ecm gets signals from a few areas but basicly controls the air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and the lock up converter. You can check out summitracing.com for a unit to control the TCC with out the use of a computer.

get an edelbrock performer intake, it is a dual plane intake that is made for a square bore carb. , it is a decent intake for use on a basically stock engine. it doesn't flow much more than the stock carbed intake but it is made for the square bore. if you plan on doing upgrades in the future (I.E. cam , exhaust and such) get a Performer RPM. it will accept the square bore carb aswell, and it is a dual plane , but flows alot better than the regular performer intake and it will not choke your engine once you do upgrades.as MadMike stated you can get a kit from summit that will operate the torque converter lock-up , so that's no big deal.
