My 94 Camaro with the LT1 has a 4L60E auto trans (I think). My shift lever's lowest gear selection is "2" which I guess means it will start off on 1st and only advances to 2nd. I'm just wondering why GM did not allow you to have a 1st gear selection?? I was guessing that you might fry your tires to easily. But my concern is that I have to come down a fairly steep grade hill, about 3/4 of a mile long and 2nd gear selection doesn't seem to allow me to descend at a safe speed without contantly on my brakes. Either that or my torque converter is not holding. I can smell my brakes by the time I reach the bottom of the hill! Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks

Thanks for the advice to the link. I just finished it tonight and now I can hold in 1st gear only, when ever I want.
