you better look into an aftermarket crate engine or build and stroke a small block, plan on having atleast 5k to start with, will end up costing atleast 8k for the engine once its done, and thats just the engine. You will have to upgrade everything.

10 sec drag & street driven car = oxymoron.

^ Why is that a contradiction? I know guys who do it. Sure, it won't be your typical grocery getter, and gas mileage would more than likely suck, but it can be done. Or maybe he's referring to 10 sec. in the 1/8 mile? Whatever the case, he's gonna have a hell of a time getting that out of a 305.

C69 is right,it can surely be done but the question is should it be.
I'd say no if it's to be a daily driver,if it's a hotrod toy to take out on sunny Sunday afternoons and prowl the streets for a kill that's different.
It'll be pretty tough to have a DD car that is dependable running 10's and still affordable to drive,it could be done if you have a really really fat wallet though.
Turbocharging,NO2,lots of gears & overdrive and a very built engine could get you there but it'll be big bucks,we're talking an engine worth 5 times what the car is and as posted you'll have mucho money in the rest of the car as well.

I'm in Tucson and am in the middle of an 87 IROC resto. Let me tell you one thing....be very careful with what you buy online. All my sheet metal was junk and I had to go the long and hard way to get legit GM panels. Unfortunately, same goes for interior parts as well. There are a number of suppliers, but as advised you will get what you pay for. I want exact GM parts no knock offs. If you are fine with cheaper stuff, then JC whitney, classic industries, etc will have most everything you are looking for. Just be specific with year and model info as a lot changed from 89 to 90 on the inside of the car. Are you still planning a big motor build up?

One thing is for certain, the 305 won't do it NA. I don't even think NO2 will get the job done. I have a 91 z28 with the 305 tpi and a 5 speed. I know the car is no dragster, but I have yet to even see the track with it so I'm not too worried about it now. The tpi with that 305 makes it almost as good as a normal carbed 350, but if you wanted a serious power upgrade throw a 350 under that tpi. Just put bigger injectors on (I found a set of 22#'ers on ebay for ~140). Maybe put a dif chip in, a free flowing exhaust and you should be good to go for a dependable DD and a decent street car.

10 sec. out of a TBI 305 just isn't going to happen (170 hp...yeah...monkeys might fly out of my ***). Reality IS reality. I would look into a low profile blower on top of a very well built 350, 355, 383. NOS shot? Myself I prefer to do things on straight motor. Put you in the high 12/ low 13 sec. range with the right gearing out back. Not too many guys on the street will be able to touch you with that...IF you can get a 3rd gen to really hook up. Look into what it will take in the suspension department. No traction=low or no E.T. These things are pretty light in the rear end.
It can be done with a plan.
