HELP! Engine Reving When in Neutral

I just started having a problem with my engine. The RPMs are fine when I am engaged in a gear, but as soon as I shift into neutral the engine likes to rev up like I have my foot slightly pressed on the accelerator. Usually reving the engine myself fixes the problem temporarily but that is very annoying! I dont know if its the accelerator cable getting jammed up or what since I havnt had a chance to check it out (I am at work right now) but any help with this would be appriciated!

Well just a tap on the gas to free it could be some thing causing the throttle blades to not close enough.

Thanks guys! I will pop the hood open once I leave work and see if I can figure anything out. Does anyone have any tips to diagnose if its a vaccume leak, IAC motor problem or anything like that?

I was looking into the problem some more and I noticed that it seems like the throttle cable is getting stuck when you press on the accelerator very lightly and let go. A quick and larger press will set it back to where it should be at. I had a friend take a look at the throttle cable as i tapped the accelerator and he says it isnt sticking at all. Any thoughts?

It may be the throttle blades worn into the body or the shaft getting stuck. Disconect the cable (it could bind when pushing)and push the throttle by hand and see if its getting stuck open a little

A friend of mine is helping me out and I looked at it again a few minutes ago and we figured it is sticking open slightly so I am searching online where I can pick up a throttle/accelerator cable and swap that out. I am thinking that it may just have crap stuck in it and it is just sticking. Does that sound right or do you think I need to go with a new throttle body?

Okay. I fixed it!:D It seems like it was just the accelerator cable. I did have some other problems though. One time as I had the clutch pushed in and reved the engine, it stalled because the RPMs fell too low. This only happened once and I couldnt get it to happen again. Also I noticed this before but the rpms lower slowly than I think it should. Not a huge problem (annoyance wise) but it will be somthing I look into further some other day. Thanks for the help guys![8D]
