Valves the same size? do the 624s have screw in studs? Both are open chamber heads neither flow great maybe will support 350 hp in stock form that is prob optimistic. I am doing a set of vortecs now I think they offer more advantages.

They have 64cc chamber much better design flow alot better will support arond 400 hp-- downside need a vortec specific manifold they are lift limited in stock form but afermarkets are not. The lift can be corrected by milling the guides. Mine will handle .470 lift stock most will enough to get 400 hp(at the engine). Combustion chamber is alot better design allowing a little higher compression before detonation. Here is a link to a discussion we are having on another site http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/fact...tml#post778591

With the vortec heads you'll get better gas mileage too. They swirl the air/fuel mixture for better atomization and therefore more efficient burning.

I have a set of 993s and I do think they are one of the better flowing open chamber heads but to reach your goal they would require alot of portingand some way to raise compression ie decking block domesd pistons thin head gasket...if you read further into the link I gave there is a discussion on the 305 head can it be done yes alot of work resizing valves heavy porting all to get where the Vortec already is just out of curiousity call the local junk yard tell them you need heads for a 1999 chevy truck with the 5.7 vortec engine I paid $200 for the ones I have now
